Anyone else thinks that Apple is readying the merger between iOS and MacOSX, at last?

I mean, why would the OSX get sliders instead of buttons (-> finder, etc)? And how would otherwise be the file-sharing in a cloud-centric iOS possible?

    Looking quite forward to it!

What remains to clear how they would deal with the custom Apple ARM vs Intel chipsets programming issue (just as ppc and intel?), programming of apps (.app vs .ipa) ...

Oh, a lot more remains to be clear than that. Like the fact that MacOS X and iOS have completely different UI layers, Window managers, input methods, memory systems, etc.

People often think a few UI elements are all that make up the OS, but there is so much more happening under the hood, and in the way the user interacts with the machine, that it's pretty clear that a merge between desktop and touch-based OSes are a loooong way off, if ever.

We can feast our eyes on the Sony NGP whilst Apple have nothing new to show in terms of hardware! :D

You could also either link to or copy the information from www.apple-history.com. It has the specs for (as far as I know) all old Apple products, but is seldom updated, so if we put everything here, then we would have a more up-to-date, all-in-one database.

    Hi Redeye,

I have come accross another bug, or it's my dual G5... or Atszyman is spoking me out! Like he's ever gonna catch up with me!
This is the case: I have three folding widgets running for over a week now, no problem in that week. I have three because I want to monitor someone behind me (Atszyman) and my next overtake in front of me. But when I just looked all three widgets where on Atszyman.

I routinely hack into your dual G5 and make sure that you get lots of Tinkers. This way I don't feel like I'm hindering the effort but I can still cripple you...:D

Your IP address is 127.0.0.1 correct?

I don't see Apple getting more than 10% marketshare anytime soon unless they do something significant.

If they have the richest 10% than that's important as they probably buy 50% of software, to Apple $499 machines don't matter as the users are (generally) ignorant (as they don't want to spend a lot on a computer so generally don't care about them) and are therefore more likely to get Spyware/Viruses, they also don't buy any software (except possibly Office), Apple *wants* those users on Windows.

Also their laptop share is already 12% in the US, with more stores that could grow to about 20% easily.

Well, the only airline I remember which had seat-back displays for all passengers was WestJet. I just flew United and the smaller planes didn't even have an in-house audio system, let alone video.

But this is a great idea.

(Side note: Having listened to it for the first time on this flight, I really appreciate airlines that put the air traffic control traffic on one of the audio channels. It was neat -- and somewhat comforting -- to know exactly what my pilot was doing up there.)

and in september iPad 3 will move to #1 spot putting iPad 2 in second and original iPad in 3rd. And in 2012 iPad 4 will move to first...but i digress.

First off, leave my post alone.
Secondly you will see iPad 3 as early as September if competition is stiff. Only if iPad 2 retains major market share will Apple will delay release of iPad 3 until 2012, thus extending revenues from iPad 2.

Once I have a decent method of getting my movies from my computer to my TV (i.e. iTV), and iTunes has more selection, I plan on never buying another DVD again. I'm in the minority here I'm sure, but for how long? How long before digital distribution is the method of choice for your average Joe?

I agree, except for one little thing===> HD Content distribution. No real solution for that one yet. You can't very easily d/l a 25GB HD movie. Even compressed, it's a massive freakin' file. I don't think there's a comsumer level internet connection that could support such content offerings.

So where does that leave us? We'll be able to d/l SD movies & TV. Brick and Mortar retailers can continue to sell hard copies with special features and HD DVD/Blu-Ray discs as well. Any retailer worth their weight in liquid soap will markup premium content and delivery formats, and everything will work out fine, until the next big change or trend.

I must agree with everyone who is in essence saying: "I'll download, stream to the TV, and if I need higher quality, special features or a hard copy, I'll stumble to the store (or online retailer) and but the disc.

I don't see how these delivery methods can't work hand in hand.

I actually have a similar caliper in my office as we use it quite often for precise measurements (seriously). I checked out my white phone that I received on Saturday. Mine had various readings around the phone from 0.373 to 0.378, but none were 0.0370. Of course I have not calibrated it in a while.

I went and measured one of my employee's black phones and it measured from about 0.375 to 0.378.

So I really do no more than just muddy the issue.

So the question of importance seems to be where this becomes an issue for cases. Otterbox is clearly concerned about it as they have posted something on their website about it. I'm sure they don't want a million returns.

If you don't want to connect your mac every time you want to watch the HD video or if you want to share your blockbuster movie with friends and family, then you can buy a bluray burner and an app to burn bluray disks.

    http://eshop.macsales.com/articles/howto-burn-bluray-toast

There might be a better way, I'm not sure... The bluray burners start at around $150.

Android vs. iOS vs. WP7 vs. WebOS...

It's so sad how the "OS Wars" has stooped to this level. I mean, what the heck, your DVD player and TiVo has an "OS" too! These are PHONES! Although they run "Apps", they don't run "Applications" where you do some real work with. No one sits as a desk to balance the daily sales on an iPhone or hash out some history assignment on a Droid. Just because they have a "CPU" in them, it doesn't make them a "computer" in the Mac/PC sense.

And for those who think..."Well. not now, but because of miniturization, blah blah, they are getting there and soon everyone will be working out of their pockets..." BALONEY! Do you think that the computer industry (and the rest of the industries that use computers) will settle for "a pocket computer reminiscent of the last decade for every employee"? When your iPhone can run the equivalent of MS Office the "computer" will run MS Office 2020! When you can do Adobe Photoshop on your Android, Adobe Holoshop will be what's required to stay in business!

There is absolutely zero logic to the rest of your post either. How has this helped the music industry exactly?

Like i said above, without the RATM thing, only a few thousand people would have bought Joe's single and practically no-one would have bought RATM. Having some competition, inspired people to buy the song they liked. More people bought Joe's and RATM's music than if there would be no 'rebellious campaign'. More money in a industry makes it a lot healthier. Especially for Sony.

As I have said all along, the UK chart is a glorified popularity contest. The most popular record, at the time, wins.
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that the general idea of the charts?

People don't just buy the xfactor winners single because of the name - they buy it because they like it (and it's usually more than a few thousand btw)
Since the demise of the chart show and top of the pops in the UK, the xfactor is really the only music show on telly. Meaning that it is all that the TV viewers see. The common working person who slumps on the couch, tired on saturday night, and watches the xfactor, isn't going to spend their time searching for other music available, when the music comes easy on the TV. With no other music on such a big TV show, it gives the xfactor a kind of a monopoly.
They may like it, but in their eyes (or ears), it's the only thing to like, because they simply don't have the time or the interest to search different genre's of music.

There has also been no significant reduction in music piracy as a result of this campaign - I guarantee it.
But I can guarantee more people have bought music. I certainly have.

    There has been no 'rebellion'.
Yes there was. If there was no rebellion, RATM would not have even been suggest for xmas number 1.

That sounds pretty cool - if it could be harnessed to charge from the heat developed by a processor, RAM, or even the battery itself... :)
