Had tea split over the keyboard; however it works fine except for two issues.

    1. The computer thinks the shift key is pressed and starts osx in safe mode and anything you type is in shift mode, i.e. capitals and !"$%^ instead of 12345 etc, but the strange thing is Ubuntu ignores this, so the left shift key doesn't work but the rest does and you can type normally.

    2. When the computer goes to sleep either in OSX or Ubuntu it does not wake up whatever key/touch pad you press - however if you do press the power button for a few seconds it powers off, and when you turn it back on OSX starts after a sort of recovery back to the desktop, however Ubuntu doesn't.

Also after the spill it wasn't turned on for more than a day and was left to dry upside down.

Any ideas what to do next - especially regarding the shift key issue?

Uhh.. yea. I think the moral of the story, as exhibited here on this thread, is that some things are best left neutral.

An old saying in sales is that there are two things you NEVER discuss with a potential customer: Politics and Religion.

The reason is simply because many people have their own beliefs and views, and in the case of religion and politics, they are often very strong views, which they will defend militantly.

I personally don't care, or am the slightest bit offended, if someone wishes me a 'Merry Christmas', a 'Happy Kwanzaa', a 'Jovial Hog Raping Day', or any of the probably hundreds of 'holidays' that exist throughout the year.

For the purposes of selling Macs to people, I think it's best to simply say 'Happy Holidays' instead of 'Merry Christmas! Vote Republican!'

I think that Apple is doing a much better effort at protecting its assets. Keep in mind what happened a certain software giant (who's name will be omitted but is known for making a poor rip-off of the Mac operating system) got away with stealing from Apple...

We all know MAC can't compete with Hardware, but we have some of the best programs on the market. That is how Steve going to use it for his ads campaign.

I read article at macworld.com the other, Apple will never make OS for PC. Check out this article: http://maccentral.macworld.com/news/0209/11.haddad.php

I am not complaining with the speed of the new Powermac, but I wouldn't mind to be faster. Faster is always better.

With ipod release for PC. Apple will make tons of money. And maybe use that money and invest in developing new Hardware.

Anybody has a stat. sell of Gateway Profile 4 and Apple imac? I want to see who is winning...

Is there shown any RAW cameras supported in 1.5 that weren't in the current version? I wasn't up on that since mine was supported and that's all that mattered to me, but if there are new camera's supported it would point to 10.4.8 to be released later this week too.

I think it's to hide how good OS X is. ;)

To be honest, this is a smart move from Microsoft. If there is one thing I cannot stand about Apple, it is the silly prices they charge. The Apple Tax is stupid.

I suppose on the bright side, at least we get what we pay for most of the time.

Yeah I wish this case was out when I got my iPod. The back of mine has a few scratches on it. I've had this case for a few days now and I love it. The cut is perfect.

I really dont care about speeds anymore, its more like i care what my computer can do. which my mac can do much more than my pc. but one thing about these benchmarks. it takes apple two processors to almost beat amds and intels chips. i think apple would be in better shape if they could come this close with a single chip, lets hope that those ibm chips with apple rumors are true.

In an ethnic sense, an Ashkenazi Jew is one whose ancestry can be traced to the Jews of Central and Eastern Europe.
    ...
A 2006 study found Ashkenazi Jews to be a clear, relatively homogenous genetic subgroup

Yes Corvus, that i already knew. But since they trace their roots to europe, and not the middle east, that technically makes them caucasian. And with the amount of blonde/red haired jews with blue eyes and fair skin i've met in my life, it's a hard pill for me to swallow to say they're not white. :p

A few people have set up chat for MWSF in ichat. it is called: MWSF08. Simply go to file>Go to chatroom> MWSF08. All 7 of us in the room were wondering if MacRumors could lock this or announce it somehow.

No major changes. Some new wacko will step up and fill the fresh void.

That being said, it is a HUGE moral victory for us and our troops.

I'm not so sure that the void can be filled. Osama Bin Laden had become a figurehead, split away from his funding and logistical support, and existed as a symbol.
A new leader would have to fulfill that same roll, but Al Qaeda's money trail has been cut to ribbons, their logistical support is broken, and the organization's ability to recruit may be blunted by the 'Arab Spring.'

The Taliban, however, will keep on rolling, but they have always operated as a separate group, although their operational structures were intertwined.

Remember that Al Qaeda has been 'franchising' itself since before 9/11, so expect to see clones popping up in Africa and the Mid East that claim the same lineage, with leaders who will claim to be the next Osama Bin Laden.

    However, that moment has passed.

I realize this isn't the best forum for a two sided debate, but I am thowing it out there anyway.

I think the white iPhone looks a little ugly. The white looks somehow cheap...

I totally agree. Why anyone would hold out for that color and why Apple spent so much time trying to get that white paint to work properly is beyond me.

The standard file system of SDXC cards is exFat (http://www.sdcard.org/developers/tech/sdxc/capabilities/) -- so does this mean the Mini now supports exFat?

Not necessarily. You could reformat the cards using HFS+ and use it on any device that can read HFS+. The trouble is, that likely wouldn't include any device using the SDXC standard.

I would be astonished to find it on a faster machine like the 17" iMac. Point No. 2: Don't take anybody's word for it. Drive down to your nearest Apple retailer. Look at the machines yourself. That should end all arguments.

I have a recent ibook running jaguar - it has had a clean install (twice) and, quite frankly, its annoyingly slow. This is a current mac, running its current os, and its hardly acceptable - running illustrator? expect the beach ball, the same with large word documents. And I still see the beachball with annoying frequency in the finder. I don't care that this isnt the top of the range 3,000 quid machine - it is stupid to only expect acceptable performance in Word on the top of the line machine. No, don't take my word for it, go have a look at a fully loaded i-book

Again, have your actually seen this "choppiness" on that $2000 machine with the brand new OS? Now for the issue of MHz, browse the web sites of the expensive UNIX workstations and servers. Look at the clock speeds of the offerings from IBM, HP, SGI, and Sun. For the most part, you will see that their machines have clock speeds in the sub-GHz range. Yet these are the machines of choice when price is no object and the job must get done. Just think about this: these boards are filled with laments that effectively tell you that you need substaintially higher clock speeds to run a computer game than you need to simulate the gas flow in a jet engine. Don't you think that something is just a bit warped here?

these machines are 64-bit, with floating point performance that widdles all over apples current offerings. The reason they are used is for this feature alone - and yepI would rather run my simulations on a sparc box than a pc, although the cost of a cheap linux box is pushing us down that route. At some point there is a balance between cost and performance. Yes it is odd that I need the fastest box around to run ut2k3 acceptably, and i agree there is something wrong with the way the market is being driven, but I suppose if thats what customers want (and are prepared to pay for), this is what they'll get....

Think. Think. Think. Apple does not "appear" to be purposesly crippling its systems. The entirity of the corporation orbits about the Macintosh. No company would purposely cripple its central product. The fact that Apple is only one of two profitable personal computer manufacturers serve as loud testimony to the contrary. Just because a bunch of idle college students post things on the Internet does not make them so.

never intentionally 'crippled' a machine? what about teh video card on teh ibook?

Ugh, outlook syncing to Exchange 2010 is still slow. Emails hit my iPhone instantly, as well as Outlook 2010. As for the Outlook it takes up to 30 seconds. Maybe they need to improve EWS???
Very slow on Office too. My 1G iPod Touch was faster.
They made Mac OS office very similar to the windows counterpart in the 2011 version. Granted its not 100% the same but the gap between office 2011 on mac and office 2011 on windows is very tiny now.
They made 2011 similar to not 2010.

I remember reading either here or on Appleinsider that if this goes well enough, they can use this chip to replace batteries. The thing with that is, if we take away the battery, where does the original power come from?

From a heat source such as a butane flame or other combustion.
We're talking two different applications here
    1) recover some waste heat from the CPU back to electricity
    2) generate electricity by applying a much higher heat source to one side of the thing - as a potential replacemenmt for batteries, fuel cells, etc.
